Rhetoric II
Prof. G. Steinberg

Speech 2

For your second speech, present to class the research that you have done for your research paper.  Remember to present an argument.  Do not simply summarize your research.  Provide background on your topic, and then argue for your own viewpoint.

In essence, this speech is a trial run for your research paper.  It's a way for you to get feedback from me and your classmates about how your research seems to be coming along.  You need not have completed all your research (and you may say in the course of your speech that you intend to further research this or that aspect of your topic), but you should have completed a significant portion of your research.

Your speech should be 5-8 minutes long and should be a “supported presentation.”  A supported presentation is a presentation that uses more than just voice and gesture -- that is, a presentation that uses the blackboard, PowerPoint, a handout, or some other technology.

Keep in mind that your speech will be graded based on my usual grading criteria for speeches.
