Pick a poem by Donne, any poem in today's assignment. As I mentioned in class, Donne's writing is very lively and never rests. See if you can go through the poem you've chosen and follow in the wake of Donne's restless mind. How do the ideas, themes, metaphors, and tone shift in the course of the poem? Where does the poem begin? Where does it end? Is it still on the same topic, taking the same stand, using the same tone, developing the same conceit? Don't worry if you don't understand every line or every image in the poem. Just enjoy the ride.
