Vittorio Emanuele III, King of Italy (1869- ). Succeeded as King of Italy in 1900 on the assassination of his father, King Umberto I. Proclaimed Emperor of Ethiopia in 1936 and King of Albania on April 16, 1939. Renounced the titles of Emperor of Ethiopia and King of Albania on September 3, 1943, at Brindisi.
