    3. Ferdinand I, Tsar of Bulgaria (1861-     ).  Elected Prince of Bulgaria in 1887 and proclaimed Tsar in 1908.  Abdicated in favor of his elder son, Tsar Boris III, and retired to Coburg, Germany, in 1918.

      1. Boris III, Tsar of Bulgaria (1894-1943).  Succeeded as Tsar on the abdication of his father in 1918.  Died in Sofia on August 28, 1943, under mysterious circumstances.
